Overview

Cookie is a consumable item that heals the player whenever the peg board is refreshed. Its passive effect triggers each time the board resets, restoring a fixed amount of HP defined by the game variable COOKIE_HEAL; this value has changed over development and currently restores 2 HP as of v0.7.13 (it was reduced to 1 during Early Access and originally introduced in the Demo/Beta cycles).

Cookie interacts with any game effect that causes the board to refresh. Refreshorbs and other refresh mechanics count as valid triggers. The item detects the board-reset event rather than direct peg hits, so its heal activates on refresh-based effects rather than on individual peg collisions.

Practical notes and synergies:

  • The PegBag is a strong companion because it adds extra Refresh Pegs to the board, increasing the frequency of board refreshes and therefore Cookie healing procs.
  • Tactical Treat pairs well by relocating the Refresh Peg to more favorable positions, making refreshes more likely or more controllable.
  • Some status or potion effects interact differently depending on implementation: Heavy Shaft Potion is reported to not count as healing in some sources (it detects peg hits), while other references indicate it can be treated as healing; rely on the current build behavior in-game to confirm interaction.
  • Refreshorbs explicitly trigger Cookie’s heal, so builds that generate Refreshorbs amplify its value.
  • Cookie’s benefit scales with how often you cause board refreshes; decks or runs that emphasize refresh mechanics get the best mileage from this item.
