Overview

Consuming Chalice is a relic that grants a flat damage bonus to all orbs while removing one Refresh Peg from the board. In effect, every orb gains increased base and critical damage (represented in game data as +{[CHALICE_STR_BONUS]}/+{[CHALICE_CRIT_BONUS]}), but each board will contain one fewer Refresh Peg. The relic was introduced in the Big Content Bundle and was later removed from Balladin's relic pool in v1.0.6.

Consuming Chalice is a high-risk, high-reward pick. The damage bonuses apply to both normal and critical hits, so it strongly benefits orbs that already deal significant critical damage or scale with base damage rather than crit-specific modifiers. Examples of orbs that pair well with the Chalice include Daggorb and Eviscorbate. A Level 3 Extra-Orbinary also gains disproportionate value because the Chalice’s bonus adds to its base damage rather than only to its critical damage.

The primary drawback is the loss of a Refresh Peg, which reduces the board’s ability to refresh orbs and generate Refresh Peg-dependent effects like Muscircle. Builds that rely on regular refreshes, multiple Refresh Pegs, or relics and orbs that require Refresh Peg generation should avoid taking Consuming Chalice. Conversely, Consuming Chalice becomes much more attractive when the run includes alternative refresh sources or methods to add Refresh Pegs back to the board—examples include Refreshield, Etherwheel, Replenishorb, PegBag, Defresh Potion, or Morbidorb. Removing the single Refresh Peg can also synergize with Morbid effects; at high Cruciball levels (for example, when only one Refresh Peg exists), the Chalice’s removal reliably triggers empty-board or morbid synergies.

Practical notes:

  • The relic gives a flat boost to all orbs’ normal and crit damage: +{[CHALICE_STR_BONUS]} normal / +{[CHALICE_CRIT_BONUS]} crit (values shown in-game data).
  • Avoid if your build depends on Refresh Pegs to generate Muscircle or similar recurring effects.
  • Take if you can consistently refresh the board via other relics/items or can add Refresh Pegs back (Refreshield, Etherwheel, Replenishorb, PegBag).
  • Strongly synergizes with orbs that have high crit damage or that scale with base damage (Daggorb, Eviscorbate, Level 3 Extra-Orbinary).
  • Consider combining with Bag of Orange Pegs or other effects that reward empty boards for additional multiplicative damage.
