Critsomallos Fleece

Critsomallos Fleece is a relic that increases critical damage for pegs by stacking additional damage based on the difference between a peg’s critical and regular damage. It was introduced in the Beta, added to the main game in Early Access, and since v0.7.34 the relic stacks critical damage by adding the damage delta rather than multiplying critical damage. The relic’s name references the Golden Fleece of Greek mythology (the winged ram Chrysomallos), combining “Crit” with “Chrysomallos.”

Critsomallos Fleece functions by amplifying the extra damage dealt when a peg is a critical peg; the relic increases the magnitude of that extra damage so critical pegs hit for noticeably more than normal pegs. Because it stacks the difference between critical and regular damage, successive sources of critical damage combine additively under the current behavior.

• The Fleece’s benefit is significantly reduced or can be neutralized entirely by Betsy’s Hedge. Betsy’s Hedge increases non-critical peg damage and scales that increase with the number of Critical Pegs on the board; raising non-crit damage shrinks the delta between crit and regular damage, which directly reduces the Fleece’s added-critical effect. Taking Betsy’s Hedge when you already have the Fleece is therefore inadvisable in many cases; conversely, having Betsy’s Hedge does not negatively interact with the Hedge itself if you pick the Fleece later, but the Fleece will simply have a smaller or no practical impact.
• Critiball no longer triggers critical pegs as of v0.7.52 and cannot itself benefit from the Fleece; however, Critiball still spawns Critical Pegs that persist until popped, and those spawned Critical Pegs do receive the Fleece’s increased critical damage. This makes combinations that create many spawned critical pegs effective even though Critiball’s own hits do not crit.
• The relic pairs especially well with effects that produce multiple critical pegs or replicate orbs. Duplication Potion + Reorbanizer is a common combo to snowball numerous crit pegs, and Short Stack amplifies the value of spawned critical pegs by concentrating their effects.
• Projectile-enhancing relics such as Au Auger scale strongly with the Fleece because a single augmented projectile that pops many critical pegs can clear entire waves: Au Auger’s high-damage projectiles combined with amplified crit damage can wipe ground units in one shot or clear air units when paired with Grabby Hand.

Practical advice: avoid picking Betsy’s Hedge when the Fleece is present unless no better options exist; prioritize relics and cards that create or preserve Critical Pegs (or duplicate orbs) so the amplified crit damage has many targets to affect; use projectile-scaling relics to convert amplified crits into wave-clearing shots.
