Overview

Critiball is an orb in Peglin that converts ordinary peg hits into Critical Pegs at a fixed interval, creating clusters of stationary Critical Pegs for follow-up damage. It was introduced during the game's beta and later added to the main game as part of early access demo content; the orb has persisted through multiple updates and balance passes as additional Cruciball levels and tracking systems were added.

Critiball’s conversions do not behave like naturally spawned Critical Pegs: once created by Critiball, Critical Pegs remain in their original positions and do not shift between shots. Refresh Pegs and Dull Pegs cannot be converted by Critiball; those peg types are treated as if struck by any other orb and will not become Critical Pegs. If the player has Electropegnet, Critiball will not be attracted toward existing Critical Pegs.

Practical usage and strategy:

  • Critiball pairs exceptionally well with high-crit damage orbs and crit-synergy items such as Critsomallos Fleece, Critikris, Allorbnothing, Nimball, and Short Stack. Generating many Critical Pegs increases the chance of scoring multiple crits or triggering secondary effects that rely on crit hits.
  • Multiball effects like Duplication Station and Matryoshka Shell amplify Critiball’s conversion rate by increasing the number of hits applied, enabling enormous numbers of Critical Pegs when stacked.
  • Strange Brew is a strong companion when you convert many pegs to Critical Pegs and otherwise would lose raw damage; it preserves damage output while you leverage crit mechanics.
  • Critiball has a high-risk synergy with positioning relics such as Betsy’s Hedge because the created Critical Pegs never move. A common play is to fire Critiball to one side of the board to seed static Critical Pegs, then fire a separate, highly boosted orb into the other side to chase crits. This tactic requires caution because stray bounces can still hit crits unexpectedly.
  • Level 3 Allorbnothing can reduce the tactical risk of hedging by turning the follow-up orb itself into a very large crit orb, effectively encouraging direct shots at the crit cluster.

Visuals and related assets include icons for standard and square Critical Pegs and converted peg states, which help identify Critiball’s effects during play. The orb’s name is a portmanteau of “critical” and “ball.”
