Overview

Bramball is an orb-type projectile introduced in the game's demo and added to the main Early Access release. It is a spherical orb that applies a lingering Bramble (also called Tangled in some updates) status to enemies it hits, dealing periodic self-damage while the status remains. The orb appears as a throw/launchable effect and is obtainable from sources such as the Strange Tree event (in exchange for health), and is referenced among the game's orbs alongside items like Exacorbate.

Bramball excels at controlling single, high-health targets and at disrupting groups when applied early. When an enemy is afflicted, Bramble slows its forward progress by keeping it in place or applying repeated damage ticks; this makes Bramball particularly useful against bosses that spawn or move away from allies, since applying Bramble while the enemy is distant can delay or soften incoming threats. Bramble does not prevent an enemy from attacking once it reaches the player, so it becomes less valuable if the enemy closes distance before or immediately after application.

Level upgrades and overflow interactions change its utility in multi-enemy encounters. Higher-level overflow (notably Overflow from level 2/3 depending on version) can kill weaker enemies and spread Bramble to survivors, letting Bramball swing large fights when enemies are near spawn or grouped. Bramble can be combined with Branch of Ember to add Blind to afflicted targets, increasing crowd-control synergy. The only known way to extend the duration of Bramble is the Mask of Sorrow relic. Because Bramble inflicts self-damage on afflicted enemies, players intending to exploit that mechanic should consider pairing Bramball with relics that reduce the player’s self-damage taken, such as Gardener's Gloves or Intentional Oboe, or avoid self-damage if they do not wish to trade health.

Practical notes and interactions:

  • Use Bramball early in waves to affect enemies near spawn; its spread from Overflow can then convert control into area damage.
  • Favor Bramball in long, single-target fights (Slime Boss, Minotaur) when you can keep the target from reaching you immediately.
  • Bramble/Tangled does not stop enemies from attacking once they reach the player, so position and timing are critical.
  • Combine with Branch of Ember to apply Blind in addition to Bramble for stronger disruption.
  • Mask of Sorrow is required to prolong Bramble duration; without it, duration is fixed.
  • Picking a Bramball from the Strange Tree costs health unless the player has Gardener's Gloves, which prevent that collection damage.

The name "Bramball" is a portmanteau of "bramble" and "ball"; it was originally called "Bramble Ball" before being shortened following community feedback. In some updates the status or naming has been listed as Tangled, and damage/overflow mechanics have been adjusted across versions (for example, a patch standardized damage scaling to fixed multiples).
