Overview

Batty is a fast-moving flying enemy that appears in Peglin encounters. It quickly closes distance to the player and begins draining the player's energy, making groups of Batties especially dangerous. Batties are standard flying monsters in the game files and have been present since the demo; their health was reduced during development (from 75 in beta to 65 in Early Access) and their attack animation was added in a later patch.

Batties behave as swift, low-to-moderate health flyers that prioritize reaching the player to apply their energy-draining effect. They are most threatening when spawned in numbers because multiple simultaneous drains rapidly wear down the player. Batties are vulnerable to area and multi-hit effects that either kill them quickly or mitigate their ability to act in subsequent turns. The game lore notes that Batties are preyed upon by creatures named Venom Battraps (also called Bat Trap variants), which consume them.

  • Ball Lightning and similar multi-hit or chaining lightning effects are effective against Batties because those effects can hit multiple flying targets and quickly reduce or eliminate on-screen bats.
  • Orbelisk-style persistent effects also counter flyers well, since the effect remains through upgrades and continues to threaten flying swarms.
  • Enemy-targeting orbs (or other enemy-seeking effects) can pick off Batties early in a wave before they close the distance.
  • Bomb relics and bomb orbs are strong counters to groups of Batties; detonating several bombs in a turn or combining bomb relics can clear an entire screen of bats.
  • High peg-combo strategies that generate many hits in one shot can dispatch multiple Batties rapidly; interactions that create repeated small hits (or many projectiles) scale well versus swarms.
  • Some special or piercing orbs that bypass obstacles and reach distant enemies also perform well against Batties because they reduce the chance a Batty reaches the player.

Version history notes: Batties were introduced in the demo, had their health adjusted in beta and Early Access, and had battle/tactical tweaks made in later updates (attack animation and battle tweaks documented in subsequent patch notes).
