Overview

Ball Lightning is an orb in Peglin that zaps multiple pegs by chaining electricity between them. It appears as a projectile that, upon hitting a peg, emits chain lightning that can strike several additional pegs in succession. The orb was introduced in the Demo release and received an effect rework in v0.7.20.

Ball Lightning typically has modest base damage on its initial hit but excels at multiplying total damage through its chaining behavior. Each zap from the chain can hit pegs both directly and indirectly, allowing the orb to clear clustered groups of pegs, detonate Bomb pegs, and trigger Refresh pegs that are tucked into awkward positions on the board. Because of this spreading damage profile, Ball Lightning is especially useful in builds that rely on area or multi-target clearing rather than single-target burst.

The chain zaps do not count as individual on-hit events for mechanics that trigger "on hit" effects; they do not activate items and relics that require a direct on-hit trigger such as Powder Collector or Mental Mantle. However, the chaining nature makes Ball Lightning scale well with stat buffs and damage-increasing modifiers that apply to the orb itself. In particular, boosts from Muscircle, Spinesse, and relics like Power Glove increase the damage of each zap, making the overall output significantly higher when these buffs are present.

Practical notes for use:

  • Use Ball Lightning to reach and clear Bombs or Refresh pegs that are isolated or behind other pegs; its chains can propagate into tight spaces.
  • Combine Ball Lightning with area-oriented or multi-hit synergies to maximize board clearance.
  • Do not rely on Ball Lightning to trigger on-hit relics or talismans that require individual hit events; plan around direct-hit mechanics accordingly.
  • Prioritize stat buffs that increase orb damage to multiply the effect across each chained zap.
