Exacorbate

exacorbate

Overview

Exacorbate is a targeted offensive orb that applies an increasing debuff to a single enemy with each hit. It is designed to focus its effect on one target rather than spread across multiple foes, making it a specialist tool for dealing with high-HP enemies or bosses. The orb's attack animation historically used the Ball Lightning lightning effect; an update later changed that animation while the underlying behavior remained focused and single-target.

Exacorbate's primary strength is its stacking debuff: each successful hit increases the debuff amount on the same enemy, amplifying damage over repeated strikes. Because the orb is targeted, the debuff increase can only ever be applied to one enemy at a time. This makes Exacorbate particularly effective in runs or rooms where a single enemy holds most of the encounter's durability.

Practical notes and interactions:

  • Prioritize using Exacorbate against single large-health enemies or champions rather than groups, since its stacking mechanic yields diminishing returns when forced to retarget.
  • Combining Exacorbate with abilities or relics that force enemies to stay on one target (taunts, crowd-control that isolates a foe, or charms) maximizes the stacking potential.
  • Pairing Exacorbate with orbs and gear that increase hit count or attack frequency accelerates the debuff buildup and shortens fights against tanky enemies.
  • Be mindful of effects that respawn or replace enemies; swapping targets resets the stack on the previous enemy, reducing efficiency.
  • While its animation once mirrored Ball Lightning, its current visual no longer relies on that effect; this change does not alter gameplay.
