Cauldron Bubball

cauldron-bubball

Overview

Cauldron Bubball is a special enemy orb that appears as a purple bubbling projectile spawned by certain Cauldron enemies. It behaves as an area attack that damages all enemies in its hit area rather than as a traditional piercing projectile. The orb was added in an early build (v0.9.01) and later had its particle effect recolored to purple; in a subsequent update (v0.9.32) a critical hit from this orb began to apply an additional Spinfection 1.

The orb deals AoE damage to units it touches but is not classified as a Piercing Orb because it is not a linear projectile; it resolves as an area effect. Because of this non-piercing classification, the Cauldron Bubball cannot trigger or be blocked by mechanics that specifically interact with piercing projectiles. Notably, it cannot hit Kite Knight’s shield in the same way a piercing orb would, so builds that rely on Clear The Way or other piercing-specific synergies should not count on this orb to trigger those effects.

Practical notes and interactions:

  • Treat the Bubball as an AoE enemy attack that affects multiple targets within its radius rather than a beam or pierce. Positioning and timing against clustered allies matters more than line-of-fire.
  • Critical hits from the orb apply Spinfection 1 in addition to normal effects as of v0.9.32; this makes criticals more dangerous against teams vulnerable to Spinfection.
  • Visual cue is a purple particle effect (changed from an earlier Poltorbgeist-like look), so the orb is identifiable by color and bubbling animation.
  • Do not rely on piercing-specific defenses or procs (such as those that only trigger on piercing projectiles) to handle Bubball; use area mitigation, shields, or direct damage reduction instead.
