Necorbmancer

necorbmancer

Overview

Necorbmancer is an Orb that revives and buffs pegs it strikes. When Necorbmancer hits an empty peg slot it spawns a revived peg and applies a small buff to pegs it revives, functioning similarly to Swoltorb-style effects. Necorbmancer was introduced in v0.7.27 and has received several adjustments since: it began buffing revived pegs in v0.8.5, was fixed to properly affect Brick Pegs in v0.8.6 and improved again for Bricks when the Defresh Potion is held in v0.8.22, gained correct revival behavior for Slime Pegs in v0.8.13, and was later updated to hit Bombs.

Necorbmancer’s core utility is situational revival and light buffing rather than consistent damage output. Its peg-refreshing and buffing attributes are most reliable on boards with many empty slots; on fuller boards these effects should be treated as secondary bonuses rather than the primary reason to pick the Orb. Although the Orb’s stats can include Critical Damage, this stat is effectively unusable in typical play because Necorbmancer cannot hit Critical Pegs. The only dependable ways to leverage Critical Damage with Necorbmancer are to use the Knife's Edge relic or to discard a Level 2 Critsoballos to convert crit potential into actual damage; otherwise Critical Damage contributes little.

Practical usage and synergies:

  • Prefer Necorbmancer on runs where the board will frequently present empty peg slots or where you plan to clear pegs to create space for revivals. Its strength scales with available empty slots.
  • Invest in Muscircle for major power gain when running Necorbmancer; Muscircle amplifies its damage more reliably than relying on Critical stats.
  • Enhanced Gunpowder helps Necorbmancer pop normal pegs so it can reach empty slots and trigger revivals more often. Short Fuse further increases this effect by enabling additional peg pops.
  • An uncommon but effective combo is Betsy's Hedge + Critiball to rapidly pump Necorbmancer’s damage via temporary crit sources; use this only if you can secure the Knife’s Edge relic or a Critsoballos to make crits meaningful.
  • Be aware that Necorbmancer’s “refresh” behavior is not identical to refresh mechanics used by items like Alchemist's Cookbook or Refresh Perspective; wording in some sources incorrectly labels the effect as a refresh, but it does not interact with true refresh-specific mechanics.

Name origin and notes:

  • The name Necorbmancer is a portmanteau of “necromancer” and “orb.”
