Balladin
Overview
The Balladin is a character archetype in Peglin that centers on creating durable defenses and converting that defense into powerful offense. Introduced in v0.9.03 and unlocked by earning the "Ballwark in a China Shop" achievement, the Balladin is described as a righteous warrior who dominates enemies with orbs and relics that emphasize unbreakable defense and strong attacks. The class name is a portmanteau of "ball" and "paladin." Its starting relic,
Balladin play focuses on generating two interrelated buffs: Muscircle (offensive bonus) and Ballwark (defensive bonus). Many core strategies rely on items and orbs that grant one or both of these buffs repeatedly during flight so the Balladin converts sustained buff-generation into large damage and survival advantages. Balladin benefits less from Critical Pegs and more from consistent buff-scaling and synergy with shield/refresh mechanics.
- Prefer orbs and relics that add Muscircle and Ballwark while orbs are in flight (for example, Renewed Vigorb and
Protectorb) rather than ones that only add a buff when fired; in-flight effects increment both buffs for each instance triggered.
- Orbust grants both Muscircle and Ballwark when fired, enabling additional stacking for Balladin builds.
Spiral Slayer provides both Muscircle and Ballwark at the start of battles and is an effective early relic pick when available.
- Items that scale Muscircle or Ballwark generation (Training Weight,
Essential Oil) increase the pace at which the Balladin reaches high damage/defense thresholds.
Mask of Joy increases both at once and functions similarly.
- Relics and orbs that gain power from Ballwark (for example,
Irresponsiball and
Best Orbfence) pair well with Muscircle-focused builds because extra Ballwark directly amplifies their damage.
- Shield Peg-focused builds perform exceptionally well with Balladin, particularly when combined with relics that boost peg durability or generate additional shields such as
Ballpeen Hammer or
Fiery Furnace.
- Refresh Peg builds are also viable;
Brassicaceae Knuckles provides a strong core for Refresh builds, and adding
Refreshircle or relics like
Leaf The Rest For Later further strengthens sustain and uptime for Muscircle/Ballwark interactions.
- A high-risk, high-reward self-damage strategy is possible if the run includes reliable Ballwark generation and healing (for example,
Popping Corn) to offset self-inflicted damage.
Play Balladin by prioritizing sources that continuously produce Muscircle and Ballwark, stacking relics and orbs that amplify those buffs, and building around peg types that benefit from strong defenses (Shield Pegs) or frequent refresh effects. This approach transforms defensive stability into sustained offensive power.
