Spinventor

Overview

Spinventor is a playable class introduced in version 0.9.22 and unlocked by earning the "Slime After Slime" achievement. The class is themed around inventing and modifying pegs, orbs, and relics: its kit focuses on changing board and orb behavior so that orbs interact synergistically like components of a machine. The character's flavor describes a tinkerer who studies odd properties of pegs, orbs, and relics and uses effects that alter the playfield and orb attributes to confound enemies.

Spinventor is built around orb manipulation and crafting. Its starting relic and cards encourage keeping unique copies of orbs in the deck so that the class can reliably buff them. Many orbs that normally deal little or no damage become useful when paired with Spinventor effects, and certain crafted or assembled orbs scale especially well with the class.

  • The class benefits from maintaining only one copy of each orb in the deck at a time, because duplicates reduce the effectiveness of Spinventor’s damage buffs; keeping unique orbs yields a consistent +1/+2 damage advantage for many orb types.
  • Spinventor is particularly strong for Slime-focused builds. Orbs such as Splatorb and Twooze Company scale well, and relics that buff Slimes (for example, A Good Slime) amplify the strategy.
  • Orbs that normally do no or very low damage — for example Echorb and Jack-Orb-Lantern — become viable damage sources when modified by Spinventor. This does not apply to orbs whose text explicitly states "Deals no damage!" (such as Reforbisher), which remain non-damaging.
  • Some midgame choices change in priority: once Cruciball Level 11 is reached, Terriball is marginally better than Pebballs if it will be the only copy in your deck, so holding a lone Terriball can be worthwhile until superior options appear.
  • Events and relic interactions matter: if the Strange Mirror event offers Orboros in exchange for removing all orbs, taking Orboros is often worth it because Orboros will be buffed by Spinventor effects.
  • Crafting multi-part orbs like Assemball is high risk/high reward. Even partial assemblies can yield powerful orbs that scale strongly with the class’s modification mechanics, so pursuing assembly parts can pay off.

Spinventor’s name is a portmanteau of "spin" and "inventor." The class was originally planned for an earlier release (v0.9.03) but was delayed for technical and balancing reasons, making it the only class to have been postponed prior to its v0.9.22 debut.
