Overview

Slime Boss is a large elite enemy that represents the ultimate form of combat-hardened slimes. It appears as a massive, mobile slime that crosses the enemy arena while covering pegs in slime with its ranged and melee attacks, quickly converting normal pegs into Slime Pegs. The creature prefers to fight alone after absorbing its subordinates and functions as a board-affecting boss: its presence changes how the pegboard behaves and imposes unique constraints on the player.

The Slime Boss moves across the screen one space per turn and periodically throws a projectile that deals 3 damage (sources differ on exact attack wording but agree on a small ranged hit). If the boss reaches the player, it will eat the player and begin a second phase in which it absorbs the player and deals 8 damage per turn (some versions report an unblockable instantaneous kill or very large damage on the eat attack—this effect is functionally lethal unless the player defeats the boss before it reaches them). While the player is absorbed, the board's launch point shifts to the center and becomes fixed. During the absorbed phase, the boss’s attacks are immune to Blind and certain typical defensive effects; traditional dodge or negate mechanics do not prevent the eat attack.

The Slime Boss’s attacks coat pegs in slime. Slime Pegs have special interactions with some orbs and relics: some orbs that use Activate vs Hit logic interact inconsistently with Slime Pegs (for example, Swoltorb and Omegorb upgrade or downgrade Slime Pegs despite wording differences), and certain relics that cause activation without a hit may not trigger the usual Slime Peg responses. These interactions have been subject to version changes and bugfixes.

Practical tactics and interactions:

  • Focused orb targeting at the start of the fight speeds up boss damage; aim for the boss and its immediate orbs rather than wasting shots on the boss’s minions. Targeting orbs that lock onto the boss is effective.
  • Multiball and high-damage single-orb options perform well. Items that grant multiball (orbs with innate multiball such as Matryorbshka and relics that grant multiball like Matryoshka Shell) increase peg coverage and throughput, though multiball can reduce per-orb damage so plan mitigation.
  • High-damage or upgraded orbs such as Daggorb or Allorbnothing are useful due to their burst potential.
  • Relics that accelerate orb damage growth (e.g., Gift That Keeps Giving) help orbs reach lethal output faster, but they may trap or cluster refresh pegs; include refresh-support relics (Tactical Treat, Refreshield) to offset that risk.
  • Bomb relics that add bombs to the board (Bomb Baton, Powder Collector) are particularly strong against the dense peg layout the boss tends to create and can enable detonations that expose more of the board or reveal background elements (screen shake plus many bombs can briefly reveal the top of the wall).
  • Be prepared to defeat the boss before it reaches you: its crossing the arena takes extra turns compared to ordinary enemies, so maximizing damage early and using board-wide burst effects is critical.

Lore and presentation: Slime Boss is described in lore as the form every slimedrop aspires to become—previously Slimeglobs that have absorbed all their subordinates. The boss’s aesthetic and animations emphasize sliming and consuming pegs, and the arena for this fight is among the densest pegboards in the game.

Version notes and quirks: The boss was introduced in beta and has had health adjustments in patches. Some data sources list its health reductions (to values like 7,000 or 8,750) and note changes to spawned peg behavior on specific challenge stages. Certain orb–Slime Peg interaction bugs remain documented and may change with future patches.
