Matryorbshka

Matryorbshka is an orb type in Peglin whose identity and behavior are themed after matryoshka (nesting) dolls. The orb spawns smaller orbs when it splits, and those child orbs can themselves split further, producing a cascading nesting effect that mirrors the structure of Russian nesting dolls. This splitting behavior defines Matryorbshka’s primary value: it multiplies its impact across multiple targets or multiple hits when triggered, making it powerful in builds that benefit from many small projectiles or repeated collisions.

Matryorbshka first appeared in the Demo Release and received bug fixes and updated artwork in v0.5.20. Its name is a deliberate pun on matryoshka dolls, and its mechanics are explicitly derived from that concept—each generation produces additional smaller orbs analogous to the smaller dolls contained within larger ones.

• Matryorbshka’s splitting creates successive generations of orbs; plan peg placement and peg interactions to maximize how many child orbs will be produced and how effectively they will reach peglin enemies or targets.
• The orb chain increases crowd coverage and can be combined with effects that trigger on multiple hits, area effects, or on-hit bonuses to amplify overall damage or utility.
• Because its strength comes from proliferation rather than single large impacts, Matryorbshka pairs well with synergies that buff small or frequent strikes rather than raw single-orb damage.
