Overview

Big Fish is a passive effect that causes orbs larger than the standard orb size to deal bonus direct damage to the currently targeted enemy each time such a large orb strikes a peg. The extra damage amount is a fixed value defined as LARGE_ORB_DMG in-game and applies per peg hit, stacking across multiple peg collisions and multiple large-orb hits within the same shot.

Big Fish interacts specifically with orb size rather than orb type; only orbs whose visual/functional size exceeds the default orb count as "large" for the effect. The following orb types are recognized as large when they meet their size conditions: Bouldorb, Bucklorb, Horriball, Snowball (after it has grown large enough), the first ball of Matryorbshka multiball, and the Orbserver’s Pupil. Each time any of these large orbs hits a peg, Big Fish immediately deals the bonus damage to whatever enemy is currently selected by the shot.

Practical notes and interactions:

  • The bonus damage triggers on every peg collision by a qualifying large orb, so shots that maximize peg hits (ricochets and long peg paths) amplify Big Fish’s contribution.
  • Multiball interactions: only the first Matryorbshka ball counts as a large orb for this effect; additional Matryorbshka balls do not trigger Big Fish unless they themselves exceed standard size per the game’s size rules.
  • Snowball becomes eligible only after it grows past the standard orb size; timing growth or acquiring Snowball upgrades before shooting increases value.
  • Big Fish’s damage is added separately from orb elemental or splash effects and applies even when the orb’s own damage type differs.
  • Positioning and target selection matter because the damage always goes to the targeted enemy; changing targets between shots changes which enemy receives the bonus.
  • Combining Big Fish with effects that increase peg hits (e.g., ricochet enhancers or slow orb modifiers that increase travel time) yields higher total damage output from the passive.

Big Fish is useful in builds that emphasize large-orb generation or enlargement, peg-focused shots that hit many pegs, and strategies that prioritize consistent incremental damage on a selected enemy each peg hit.
