Counter Tack

counter-tack

Overview

Counter Tack is a passive effect that deals damage to an attacker whenever the player evades an attack. The damage dealt equals the total number of positive status effects the player has applied to themselves plus the total number of negative status effects the player has applied to enemies. It triggers on each instance of an evasion event.

This effect scales with status counts rather than with attack power or enemy stats, so builds that emphasize applying multiple buffs to yourself and debuffs to foes increase Counter Tack's potency directly. Typical sources of the counted effects include temporary buffs (strength, shield, haste, etc.) on the player and debuffs (weakness, poison, slow, stun markers, etc.) on enemies; each separate applied status contributes +1 to the damage total.

Practical notes for use and interactions:

  • Counter Tack benefits from synergies that multiply opportunities to evade (cards, items, or mechanics that grant evasion or illusions), because it triggers on every successful evade.
  • Prioritize cards and relics that reliably add many positive effects to yourself and multiple debuffs to enemies to maximize returned damage per evade.
  • The damage is calculated as a simple integer sum of statuses; stacking many small, temporary statuses is often more effective than relying on a single large effect.
  • Counter Tack is especially effective against multi-hit enemies or encounters that present repeated evasion windows, since each avoided hit produces another instance of damage.
  • It does not scale with status duration—only the number of distinct applied positive/negative status instances at the moment of evasion matters.
