Overview

Endless DevouRing is a global modifier that doubles orb attack power while applying a damage downgrade each time an orb is Activated. It appears as an effect that multiplies orb stats by 2 but subtracts a fixed negative damage value from an orb whenever it triggers, causing each activation to reduce that orb's contribution to damage by the stated amount.

Activation behavior and arithmetic are explicit: the orb's attack value is multiplied by 2, and the orb also suffers a downgrade of -{[ALL_ORBS_DEBUFF_AMOUNT]} damage per activation. The downgrade amount is applied as a negative damage component that is not itself affected by the doubling multiplier; the displayed downgrade is the exact value subtracted from the doubled attack total.

Practical implications for play:

  • Because the negative downgrade is not doubled, low-attack orbs can effectively be nullified or reduced disproportionately. For example, an orb with base attack 2 that activates with a -3 downgrade does not increase the total damage (2×2 = 4 minus 3 = 1; because the -3 is not doubled, the net gain can be negligible or reversed depending on values).
  • Orbit activations that occur during navigation (pegs struck while moving between boards) also apply the downgrade, so off-board hits still incur the penalty.
  • The effect favors high-base-damage orbs and encourages building around fewer, stronger orb hits rather than many small ones. Orbs or upgrades that increase raw attack scale better under this modifier than effects that add small increments to many hits.
  • Because the downgrade is a fixed subtraction per activation, strategies that reduce the number of activations (for example, consolidating damage into fewer orbits or using multipliers applied after subtraction where possible) mitigate the penalty.
  • The permanent numeric value of the downgrade has changed historically: the downgrade amount was reduced to -3 in v1.0 from -4 in earlier versions; the modifier was introduced in v0.9.44.

Use Endless DevouRing when you can produce consistently high-damage orb activations or when your run includes ways to offset per-activation penalties; avoid relying on many small hits that each suffer the fixed downgrade.
