Packages up Items for easier carrying and transport.

Overview

Packager is a consumable item used to compress placeable objects into a boxed form for transport. It must be attached directly to the surface of the target object, not placed in an attachment slot. When the top light turns green, holding the Use button packages the object into a crate and removes the Packager in the process, so another one is needed for each additional package. If the Packager is placed on something it cannot be used on, such as the starting Shelter, its light turns red; if it is placed in an attachment slot, the light turns black to show that it is inactive.

Packaging an item restores it to its default, freshly crafted state. This can be used to reset partially used equipment, such as a Solid-Fuel Thruster regaining all four uses, a Large Shredder losing any partial scrap pile, or a Medium Battery losing all stored power. It is also useful for refreshing modules that can occasionally break or that change after an update, including the EXO Request Platform after a new ETL.

Packager is especially useful for moving research objects back from another planet, reorganizing a base, or transporting bulky items that are otherwise awkward to carry. It can also be used on large fragments that are too big to collect into a fragment bundle, reducing them by one size tier and adding attachment points for easier transport. Packaged objects cannot be shredded, so an unpacked object must be processed by a shredder large enough to destroy it and convert it into Scrap.

  • Attach Packager to the object itself, not to an attachment slot.
  • Hold Use when the indicator light is green to package the target.
  • The item is consumed when used.
  • Red light means the target cannot be packaged.
  • Black light means the Packager is inactive because it is in an attachment slot.
  • Packaging restores an item to its newly crafted state, including charges, fuel, and stored power where applicable.
  • Large fragments can be reduced in size for transport, but the packaged form cannot be shredded.
