Hydro Switch
Overview
Hydro Switch is a building that monitors the hydrostatic pressure of liquids around it and cuts electrical power when that pressure exceeds a configurable threshold. It functions as a pressure-sensitive power shutoff: when the liquid pressure in the tiles surrounding the Hydro Switch rises above the set value, the device opens the power circuit and stops supplying electricity; when pressure falls below the threshold, it restores power. The threshold is configurable so the player can choose the pressure level that triggers the switch.
Hydro Switch interacts directly with the power network by breaking or making a power connection based on ambient liquid pressure rather than on dupes, timers, or logic signals. Because it responds to the pressure of nearby liquids, placement inside or adjacent to liquid-filled tiles determines whether and how it senses pressure. The Hydro Switch is therefore useful in setups where electrical systems must be automatically disabled when fluid columns grow too tall or when a local liquid pressure condition is reached.
- It detects the hydrostatic pressure of liquids around its location and compares that pressure to a user-set threshold.
- When measured pressure exceeds the set threshold, the Hydro Switch cuts power; when measured pressure is below the threshold, it supplies power.
- The trigger threshold is adjustable, allowing fine control over the pressure level that causes power to be interrupted.
- Placement relative to liquid columns matters: the switch reads the pressure in its immediate surroundings, so putting it at different depths or adjacent to different volumes of liquid changes the pressure it senses.
- Because it operates on liquid pressure rather than volume or flow, it is effective for detecting high liquid head (tall columns) or any situation where hydrostatic pressure alone should gate power.
Use the Hydro Switch whenever an electrical system must be automatically disabled by the local hydrostatic state. Configure the threshold to the appropriate pressure for your setup and place the switch where it will sense the intended liquid column. Keep in mind its behavior is governed solely by surrounding liquid pressure and the threshold you set.
