Overview

Portrait Canvas is a decorative building used to create painted art pieces. It is mainly a late-game morale and base-beautification option, letting Duplicants produce wall art with different quality levels after being assigned the proper creative work. The building itself is not about survival or resource production; its value comes from the Decor it contributes and the finished artwork it can generate.

The material used to construct a Portrait Canvas affects the total Decor bonus of the painting. Reed Fiber is a required construction material and grants a +10% Decor bonus to the finished piece. Gold Amalgam or Copper Ore can be used to add another +10%, while Niobium gives +50%. Niobium is generally not practical because of how rare it is.

Paintings made with a Portrait Canvas can come in several quality tiers:

  • Scribble: +5 base Decor
  • Regular Painting: +10 base Decor, requires a Duplicant with Aesthetic Design
  • Excellent Painting: +15 base Decor, requires a Duplicant with Masterworks; successful creation plays the cheering animation

In practice, Portrait Canvas is best used where high Decor matters most, such as living areas, dining halls, and other rooms that benefit from morale-boosting art. When planning a painting room, it is usually better to prioritize accessible materials like Reed Fiber, Gold Amalgam, or Copper Ore over Niobium, since the latter offers the best bonus but is extremely rare.
