Overview

The Radiation Sensor is an automation building used with rocket control systems. It checks a rocket’s current position on the Starmap and outputs a green signal when the rocket is at one of the locations selected in its filter; otherwise, it outputs red. This makes it useful for triggering launch, return, or other rocket-related automation only when a vessel reaches a specific destination.

Its location filter can include In Space, which covers empty space tiles and POI tiles such as resource fields or a demolished rocket, as well as any planetoid that has already been discovered. In practice, this lets the sensor distinguish between deep-space travel and arrival at a known destination.

  • Because the sensor is tied to a specific rocket’s location, it is best used as part of a larger automation chain for spaceflight rather than as a general-purpose sensor.
  • Selecting In Space is useful when you want a signal while the rocket is away from any discovered planetoid and still traveling through open space.
  • Selecting discovered planetoids is useful for detecting arrival at a target world before enabling further actions.
  • The sensor’s output is binary: it does not indicate distance, only whether the rocket matches the chosen location filter.
