Overview

Orbert's Story is a game modifier that affects the behavior of "?" nodes in Peglin runs. When equipped, it increases the chance that a "?" node will yield a treasure chest and also increases the chance that any chest found will contain a rare relic. The effect is represented in the game files by two parameters: MORE_TREASURE (percentage increase to a "?" node becoming a treasure node) and BETTER_TREASURE (percentage increase to a chest producing a rare relic).

Orbert's Story has a mechanical interaction with the sequence of "?" nodes. In a later patch it was changed to guarantee a chest on every fourth "?" node entered, and the way rare relic chance scales was adjusted (the rare relic bonus was converted to a multiplicative increase of 50% in at least one version instead of a flat +7%). The relic and treasure bonuses are described consistently across English, Japanese, Korean, and Simplified Chinese data: the "?" node treasure discovery chance is increased by MORE_TREASURE%, and the chance for a chest to contain a rare relic is increased by BETTER_TREASURE%.

Practical notes and usage considerations:

  • Orbert's Story directly improves both quantity and quality of rewards from "?" nodes, making exploration of unknown nodes more lucrative.
  • In its current form (post-change), players receive a guaranteed chest on every fourth "?" node entered while the modifier is active; this can be used to plan route choices around "?" density.
  • The increased rare relic chance stacks multiplicatively with other sources of rarity increases; prioritize this modifier when you seek relic upgrades.
  • If a player dislikes the particular "?" encounter they were assigned, the game allows exiting and continuing to reroll the "?" encounter; this is possible but reduces the intended run experience and is not recommended for regular play.
  • The name and sprite art reference Treasure Island theming: the asset name "treasure_island" and the pun on "Robert's Story" tie the modifier to classic treasure-hunting motifs.
