Overview

The Tannery is a production building that converts leather into several mid-tier goods used across the settlement. Its main role is to turn raw hide into Leather Sack, Shoes, and Paper, making it a flexible processing station once a steady leather supply is available.

It has four known production recipes:

  • 2 Leather → 3 Leather Sack, using 550 work
  • 2 Leather + 1 Tool → 4 Shoes, using 800 work
  • 2 Leather + 1 Rubber → 4 Shoes, using 800 work
  • 2 Leather → 4 Paper, using 800 work

Because it can make both storage-related goods and equipment, the Tannery often serves as an important bridge between basic animal products and more advanced settlement logistics. Leather Sack is useful enough that maintaining a dedicated production line for it can keep early storage needs comfortable, while Shoes are a direct workforce upgrade once the settlement reaches the required social level. Paper gives the building an additional role in supply chains that need writing material rather than clothing or containers.

A practical setup is to keep around two Tannery buildings producing Leather Sack and Shoes, which is usually enough to cover demand without overcommitting leather. Since Shoes cannot be used by anyone below the middle class, they are not always immediately relevant to every resident. If they are needed, consumption permissions should be adjusted with Code Stone so the right population can actually use them.

The Tannery is therefore best treated as a versatile leather-processing hub. Its value depends less on raw output volume and more on balancing leather intake with the current needs of the town: storage, clothing, or paper production.
