Manual Generator
Overview
Manual Generator is a building that converts Duplicant physical exertion into electrical power. Its defining characteristic is that Duplicants can run on it; watching them do so is repeatedly described as charming or adorable, and the electricity produced is treated as a pleasant secondary benefit rather than the only point of interest.
The Manual Generator operates by having a Duplicant use the device as an activity: the Duplicant must run on the generator to produce power. The design emphasizes the visible, physical interaction between colonists and infrastructure, making the generator as much a visual and social element of a base as it is a source of electricity. Across languages and regional descriptions, emphasis is placed on the spectacle of Duplicants running and on the generator’s role in supplying power being incidental to that spectacle.
Practical notes and considerations for using the Manual Generator:
- It requires a Duplicant to actively use it in order to produce electricity; without a Duplicant running on the unit, it does not generate power.
- Its appeal is largely aesthetic and emergent: placement where Duplicants can be observed running highlights the building’s charm.
- The electrical output is described uniformly as a bonus — useful, but not necessarily the building’s primary purpose in player narratives.
