Power Transformer

Overview

Power Transformer is the building used to limit the amount of electrical power that connected Wire segments draw, and thereby prevent those Wires from suffering overload damage. In gameplay terms, the Power Transformer enforces a cap on energy pulled through the network it governs; by restricting the power flow, the Transformer prevents Wires from being exposed to currents above their safe thresholds and avoids the damage that results from overloads.

Wires in the game are subject to overload damage when they carry more power than their rated capacity. The Power Transformer operates by constraining the energy available to downstream circuits so that the connected Wire segments do not exceed their allowed draw. This makes the Transformer a direct measure for protecting power distribution lines: reducing peak draws and preventing the repeated or catastrophic failure of Wires caused by excessive power flow.

Because the Transformer acts on the amount of power pulled, it does not change the existence of loads or the total potential demand; instead, it limits how much power those loads are permitted to draw from the network. When the cap imposed by the Transformer is lower than the combined demand of attached devices, those devices will be restricted to the Transformer’s set maximum, which in turn keeps the Wire current within safe limits and avoids overload damage.

  • Limiting the energy drawn by Wires prevents overload damage to those Wires.
  • The Transformer enforces a maximum power draw for downstream wiring and devices, so peak or transient demands that would otherwise overload a Wire are curtailed.
  • Use of a Power Transformer is a direct and reliable method to protect distribution Wire from damage caused by excessive power flow.

No other behavior, statistics, or interactions are asserted here beyond the Transformer’s role in limiting power drawn by Wires to prevent overload damage.
