Overview

The Wattage Sensor is an automation building used to monitor the electrical load on a power circuit and output a signal based on the wattage it detects. It is commonly used to keep a branch from overloading by turning devices on and off in response to the current demand on the wire network.

In practice, it is useful for managing circuits with several large consumers. A typical setup places the sensor so it can control a branch feeding equipment with a combined load that may exceed what the wire can safely carry if everything starts at once. When the connected appliances’ total draw becomes too high, the automation network can be used to interrupt the circuit and prevent the wire from repeatedly tripping.
