Wood Burner

Overview

Wood Burner is a compact power-related building that is easy to maintain and produces a significant amount of heat. Its small footprint makes it straightforward to fit into a base without demanding much space, while its high heat output means it is not a neutral building to place casually.

Because of that heat production, a Wood Burner is best treated as both a convenience and a liability. It can serve as a simple way to add warmth to an area, but it also increases the risk of overheating nearby rooms if it is placed too close to temperature-sensitive infrastructure or crops. Planning its location matters more than its size would suggest, since even a small building can have a noticeable thermal impact over time.

Its maintenance-friendly nature makes it appealing in situations where a colony wants a low-effort building rather than one that needs frequent attention. That also means it is a practical early or interim option when space is limited and the player wants a straightforward source of heat. At the same time, the amount of heat it gives off should be considered part of its cost: if the surrounding area does not benefit from warmth, the building can create more problems than it solves.

In practice, the Wood Burner is most useful when:

  • a compact footprint is important
  • a steady source of heat is desirable
  • the surrounding area can safely absorb extra warmth
  • the colony prefers a simple building that does not require much upkeep

If heat is already a concern in the base, the Wood Burner should be isolated or placed where the extra temperature will not interfere with critical rooms. If warmth is useful, however, its combination of small size, easy upkeep, and substantial heat output makes it an efficient building to work around.
