Overview

Super Coolant is a late-game industrial element used primarily for extreme cryogenic cooling. It is one of the most powerful working fluids in the game because of its exceptionally high heat capacity and thermal conductivity, which makes it ideal for reaching and maintaining temperatures far below those achievable with ordinary coolant liquids. This also means it transfers heat very quickly, so systems that use it must be designed carefully or they will move heat more aggressively than expected.

Its main strength is in the production of Liquid Oxygen and Liquid Hydrogen, where it greatly simplifies cooling chains. Super Coolant also works well with the Thermo Aquatuner, but the Aquatuner will not cool it below -272.2°C, and the liquid will not freeze or burst pipes under normal use. Because of its temperature range, it is also used in very advanced gas processing setups, including cooling Sour Gas into Methane and then heating that Methane to produce Natural Gas.

Super Coolant is produced in the Molecular Forge. The recipe is:

Because Fullerene is required, Super Coolant is effectively a space-age material and is generally unavailable until very late in the game. A single batch is enough to completely fill 10 liquid pipe segments, which makes it efficient to stockpile once the production chain is established.

In practical use, Super Coolant is best reserved for systems that specifically need extreme cold. It is far more capable than earlier cooling fluids, but its high thermal conductivity can make temperature control more difficult if it is sent through weak or poorly insulated loops. It is especially valuable in compact, high-performance cooling designs where ordinary liquids would either fail to reach the target temperature or require far more machinery to do so.

A few practical points:

  • It is one of the best choices for deep-freeze applications such as Liquid Oxygen and Liquid Hydrogen production.
  • It cannot be cooled past -272.2°C by the Thermo Aquatuner, so it is safe from freezing-related pipe damage in normal operation.
  • Its high heat transfer makes it excellent for moving heat out of a system quickly, but this same trait can overwhelm setups that are not prepared for rapid temperature change.
  • Since it requires Fullerene, it is intended for late-game use and is rarely worth spending on low-value cooling tasks.
  • It can be part of a Sour Gas to Methane conversion chain, which in turn can feed Natural Gas production.

Super Coolant is therefore less of a general-purpose liquid and more of a premium engineering tool: expensive to make, extremely powerful, and best used where only the coldest possible temperatures will do.
