Overview

The Botanical Analyzer is a Science building used to identify plant seeds, including mutated seeds. When a Duplicant delivers a seed to it, the seed is analyzed and the building produces a science skill increase opportunity, making it a useful early and mid-game training tool as well as a way to organize seed handling. Because mutated seeds can be generated repeatedly, it can serve as a practically endless source of science experience once players have access to plants that produce them.

As a Science Building, the Botanical Analyzer receives a +10% efficiency bonus when placed inside a Laboratory. Its Cell of Interest, where an identified seed will drop, is the far-left cell of the building. This matters when planning conveyor access, item pickup, or cramped layouts around the analyzer.

A few practical notes make it easier to use effectively:

  • Mutated seeds are a potentially infinite resource, so the Botanical Analyzer is a reliable way to train Duplicants’ Science skill over time.
  • Since science skill levels up faster with repeated use, it is especially valuable when you want to push a researcher or general-purpose Duplicant toward higher skill tiers.
  • When a seed is dropped from a plant, the pop-up name may show the plant’s mutation variant even if that mutation has not yet been analyzed yet; the seed itself still remains labeled as an unidentified subspecies until the analyzer processes it.
  • The building’s output and pickup behavior are centered on the far-left cell, so placing it with that in mind can prevent awkward pathing or item jams.

In practice, the Botanical Analyzer is most useful in bases that routinely harvest unusual or mutated plants. It turns a byproduct that might otherwise sit unused into a repeatable source of science progression. Because it is tied to seed identification rather than raw material processing, it works best when integrated into a compact agricultural or research workflow, ideally with nearby storage and labor routes that minimize idle travel.

Its efficiency bonus in a Laboratory makes it a natural fit for research-focused rooms, but even outside a dedicated lab it remains worthwhile whenever seed throughput is high.
