Overview

Space Platforms are the toolbar category that contains all platforms you can build Machines on in Shapez 2. This includes Machine Platforms, Asteroid Miners and Asteroid Pumps. The Vortex Platform is also a space platform, but you cannot place or move it. Space View is organized in chunks: each chunk equals 20×20 (400) tiles in Machine View, though not all tiles of a chunk are usable for construction; the individual pages for Machine Platforms, Asteroid Miners and Asteroid Pumps provide details on their specific buildable areas.

Space infrastructure components are built on these platforms to transport shapes, fluids and signals across large distances. Space Belts transport shapes and function like belts at large scale: they can be split and merged like regular belts and each Space Belt tile consumes 0.5 Platform Units. A single Space Belt can carry up to 48 full belts of shapes (16 belts per machine level, 4 belts per lane). Space Pipes transport fluids quickly over long distances; unlike ground Pipes, fluid in Space Pipes travels in only one direction. Space Pipes can be split and merged like Belts, and each Space Pipe tile also consumes 0.5 Platform Units. A Space Pipe can carry up to 288 full Fluid Launchers (96 launchers per machine level, 24 launchers per lane).

Vertical connections between space layers use lifts placed the same way as their ground counterparts by using the Level Up (default E) and Level Down (default Q) hotkeys while placing the item. Each Space Belt Lift and each Space Pipe Lift uses 0.5 Platform Units.

Space Platforms include specialized 1×4 buildable protrusions called notches. Notches are three levels tall and stick out from a platform edge at the center of a space chunk. They are specifically used to transfer shapes, fluids or wireless signals between Machine Platforms, Asteroid Miners, Asteroid Pumps, Space Belts, Space Pipes, Train Loaders/Unloaders and Trade Stations. Only Belt Launchers, Belt Catchers, Fluid Launchers, Fluid Catchers, Wireless Senders and Wireless Receivers may be placed on notches.

Practical notes:

  • Chunk size: 20×20 tiles in Machine View per chunk in Space View; verify each platform type’s page for exact buildable tiles.
  • Platform unit costs: each Space Belt tile, Space Pipe tile, Space Belt Lift and Space Pipe Lift consumes 0.5 Platform Units.
  • Throughput: Space Belts carry up to 48 full belts (16 per machine level, 4 per lane); Space Pipes carry up to 288 fluid launchers (96 per level, 24 per lane).
  • Lifts: place using Level Up/Level Down hotkeys (default E/Q) while placing a Space Belt or Space Pipe to create vertical connections.
  • Notches: 1×4, 3 levels tall, center of chunk edge; restricted to launchers/catchers and wireless transmitter/receiver placement only.
  • Platform capacity is affected by difficulty settings: Relaxed gives unlimited capacity, Normal gives 100% capacity and Challenge gives 80% capacity.
