Overview

Glurch the Abominous Mass is an early-game boss found in a slime-covered arena roughly 65 tiles from The Core. When Glurch is nearby, a loud thumping sound begins and the screen shakes, making the encounter easy to detect before the boss is fully in view. After being defeated, Glurch can be summoned again by placing a Giant Slime Summoning Idol on the rune located below the original spawn point.

Glurch’s behavior is straightforward but dangerous. At full health, it only attacks players within a 6-tile radius, but once damaged that detection range expands to 20 tiles. Its main attack is a rapid leap toward the closest player, dealing damage on impact and leaving behind Ground Slime. Glurch also destroys any non-indestructible objects in its path, including walls, and will fill pits or liquids with Dirt Block ground as it moves. If the player leaves its range during the fight, or if Glurch moves more than 25 tiles away from its rune, it returns to the rune and regenerates health at a rate of 10% of maximum health every 5 seconds. At 30% health, it becomes enraged and moves much faster.

The terrain around Glurch strongly affects the fight. Ground Slime slows movement, so clearing it with a hoe or shovel can make dodging much easier. The boss is vulnerable to long-range pressure: bombs and ranged weapons such as the Slingshot are highly effective. When using bombs, a common tactic is to place the bomb, then run out of Glurch’s range so that the boss jumps onto it and triggers the explosion. Repeating this method can defeat Glurch with roughly 10–20 bombs on average.

Useful preparations include:

  • Copper armor or Rain armor are solid choices for this fight.
  • Rain armor also reduces the movement-speed penalty from Ground Slime by 50%.
  • The Swift Feather helps with dodging Glurch’s leap attacks.
  • Cooked Bomb Peppers increase movement speed, and pairing them with a Heart Berry provides healing, movement speed, and a temporary maximum health boost.

Because Glurch can break through obstacles and continuously reshape the battlefield, mobility matters more than standing your ground. Staying at range, keeping the arena clear of slowing slime, and avoiding prolonged disengagement from the fight all help prevent Glurch from resetting to its rune.
