Overview

Ra-Akar the Sand Titan is a boss encountered in the Desert of Beginnings, roughly 600 tiles from The Core. It is summoned by placing a Thumper in its arena, and a Ra-Akar the Sand Titan Scanner can be used to reveal the arena’s location on the map. After being defeated, Ra-Akar cannot be summoned again until its soul disappears, which takes about 5–6 minutes.

Ra-Akar’s fight centers on arena control and sustained movement. It uses six distinct attacks: it can burrow underground and charge around the arena while becoming immune to damage; create lines of sand rings that rotate clockwise or counter-clockwise, with small gaps between the rings that can be used to slip through; send out a wave of sand rings from itself to the arena edges; spawn multiple sand rings at the player’s location; summon Bomb Scarabs at random points in the arena; and fire six triangle-shaped ancient projectiles that home in on the player and accelerate rapidly.

The ancient projectiles are especially dangerous if they are allowed to keep chasing for too long, but they can be handled by outrunning them or baiting them into a wall. They can also be destroyed with explosive weapons such as the Burnzooka or the Volcanic Mortar. Because Ra-Akar frequently fills the arena with moving hazards, keeping a clear path and avoiding being cornered is important throughout the encounter.

  • When Ra-Akar burrows and charges, it cannot be damaged, so focus on dodging until it resurfaces.
  • The rotating sand-ring patterns have gaps; learning to read their spacing makes this attack much easier to survive.
  • The arena-wide sand-ring wave starts from Ra-Akar and expands outward, so prepare to move away from the center when it begins.
  • Bomb Scarabs can clutter the battlefield and force bad movement, so stay aware of where they spawn.
  • The homing ancient projectiles are one of the most threatening attacks, but they are also the easiest to neutralize with explosive weapons or by leading them into terrain.

Ra-Akar’s arena layout is an important part of the encounter, since many of its attacks rely on open space and predictable movement lines. A map view of the arena exists in the game’s files, and the scanner helps locate it before the fight.
