Overview

Morpha the Aquatic Mass is a boss found in the Sunken Sea, roughly 700 tiles from The Core, in a slime-covered area. It can be located with a Morpha the Aquatic Mass Scanner, and when it is nearby the screen shakes and a loud thumping sound can be heard. After being defeated, Morpha can be summoned again by placing a Giant Slime Summoning Idol on its rune below the original spawn point.

At full health, Morpha only begins attacking players within a 6-tile radius. Once it has taken damage, that aggro range expands to 20 tiles. It attacks by leaping rapidly toward the closest player, dealing damage on impact and leaving a patch of Ground Slippery Slime behind. Morpha also destroys any non-indestructible objects in its path, including walls, and any pits or liquids it crosses are filled in with Beach Block ground. Every 3–6 seconds, it briefly pauses to fire 30 bubbles in random directions; these bubbles deal moderate damage and make close-range fighting especially dangerous. If a player moves out of range during the fight, or if Morpha travels more than 25 tiles from its rune, it returns to the rune and regenerates health at a rate of 10% of its maximum every 5 seconds. Once it reaches 30% health, it becomes enraged and moves much faster.

The battle is made significantly easier by controlling space. Because the bubble attack punishes proximity and leaves lingering hazards, ranged weapons are preferred over melee. A larger arena also helps avoid getting trapped by Morpha’s movement and by the slippery ground it creates. Clearing an area about 5–10 blocks larger than the default arena and using a Scarlet Hoe to quickly cultivate the ground and remove Ground Slippery Slime reduces the boss’s ability to control the field and also prevents other enemies from spawning during the fight.

  • Keep your distance whenever possible, especially during the bubble attack.
  • Build the arena wider than the default space so Morpha has less chance to corner you.
  • Use a Scarlet Hoe to clean up slippery slime and stabilize the battlefield.
  • Avoid fighting too close to walls or other obstacles, since Morpha breaks through them and can reshape the arena.
  • Watch for the enrage phase at 30% health, when its movement speed increases sharply.
