Overview

Isosap is a rare liquid element that can appear on any destination of the Starmap and is used as a resource in late-game production chains. It is most commonly encountered as a phase-change product when high-temperature Sap or Liquid Sap is vaporized; in the base game it can also be recovered by bringing back destinations that include it with a Cargo Bay-equipped Rocket.

In the Spaced Out DLC, Isosap becomes a deliberate product of heating Liquid Sap: when Liquid Sap is heated above its phase-change point, 25% of the mass converts into Isosap while 75% becomes Steam. The temperature required for this reaction is above 128 °C (approximately the phase-change point plus 3 °C). As part of that DLC change, Isosap’s melting point was raised to 200 °C.

Practical notes and interactions:

  • Isosap can spawn on any Starmap destination; include a Cargo Bay on rockets to reliably obtain it from world salvage and biome pickups.
  • To produce Isosap in the field, collect Liquid Sap from wetland-type asteroids and heat it past the required temperature so that 25% of the mass becomes Isosap and 75% becomes Steam; plan for the large steam output when designing heat-exchange and venting systems.
  • Isosap’s melting point of 200 °C means it remains liquid at higher temperatures than many common fluids; handle it with appropriate thermal insulation and containment.
  • Isosap can also be found among liquid fragments from hazardous events on the Starmap; regenerating sources of such fragments produce roughly 120.24–240.48 kg per cycle, depending on the event and location.
  • Because the phase-change yields Steam as the majority byproduct, use steam condensers or steam turbines to reclaim energy or water when processing Liquid Sap into Isosap.
  • When planning production lines that consume or convert Isosap, account for its limited natural availability and prefer targeted rocket retrieval or on-site conversion of Liquid Sap rather than relying on random spawns.
