Focused Blast

focused-blast

Overview

Focused Blast is a passive effect that modifies how bombs behave when targeting a single enemy. When active, bombs deal an increased amount of damage but their explosion only affects the targeted enemy rather than the normal area. The multiplier applied to the bomb's damage is defined in game data as {[ONLY_TARGET_BOMB_DMG_MULT]}.

Focused Blast appears in the game as an effect that players can obtain through relics, items, or encounter rewards (its exact acquisition sources vary by run). Mechanically, it converts area-of-effect bombs into single-target high-damage strikes: the bomb retains its usual timing and visuals but the blast is constrained to hit only the locked target.

Practical notes and strategy:

  • Focused Blast turns bombs into precision tools. It is most useful when you want to concentrate burst damage on high-priority targets such as bosses, elite enemies, or enemies with dangerous abilities that must be eliminated quickly.
  • Because the explosion no longer damages adjacent enemies, Focused Blast reduces the utility of bombs for crowd control and clearing multiple weak foes. Avoid relying on it when facing large groups unless you have other AoE sources.
  • The effect multiplies the bomb's damage by {[ONLY_TARGET_BOMB_DMG_MULT]}, so pair it with bomb-damage upgrades, amplifier effects, or skills/items that increase bomb base damage to maximize the benefit.
  • Timing and target selection become more important. Lock bombs onto enemies that will survive until detonation and that warrant concentrated damage to prevent wasted single-target hits.
  • Focused Blast does not change bomb mechanics beyond damage multiplication and target restriction; bombs still follow their normal fuse and detonation rules.

History: Focused Blast was added to the main game during Early Access. It was introduced in beta with a buggy encounter that could cause a softlock; that bug was addressed in a subsequent patch.
