Generates an explosion. Watch out!

Overview

Bomb is an explosive item used to clear areas quickly, especially in the Mines and Skull Cavern. When it detonates, it affects a radius of 5 tiles, with an overall diameter of 11 tiles. Its blast can break rocks and ore or gem nodes, uncover or till dirt, and destroy several kinds of placed objects, making it useful for fast mining and for clearing space.

Its effects vary by what it hits:

  • Rocks and ore or gem nodes drop their normal contents.
  • Mushrooms, Artifact Spots, and foraged minerals are destroyed.
  • Untilled dirt tiles within a much smaller radius become tilled.
  • In the Mines and Skull Cavern, items such as clay or artifacts can drop at the same rate as if the player had used a hoe; elsewhere, nothing drops unless the spot is covered by a Secret Note.
  • Crafted artisan and refining equipment are destroyed.
  • Heaters are destroyed.
  • Auto-Grabbers are not destroyed, whether they are empty or contain items.
  • Trees are destroyed once their health reaches zero; five Bombs will topple a fully grown tree, and three more Bombs will destroy the stump. Trees drop wood, sap, and any seeds they contained.

Because of this, Bombs are best used with care around valuable placed equipment and trees. They are strong area-clearing tools, but their blast can also remove things the player may want to keep. The item is especially practical in mining runs where a single explosion can reveal resources, open up paths, or accelerate room clearing.

Bomb can also be used at the Sewing Machine. Placing it in the spool creates the Bomber Jacket, and it can also serve as a black dye when used with a dyeable clothing item in the feed.

The Bomb’s blast radius makes positioning important. Since the affected area is relatively large, it can be used to hit clustered rocks or nodes efficiently, but it is equally capable of damaging nearby crops, furniture, or other placed objects if used in the wrong place.
