Fluid module (M)
Overview
The Fluid module (M) is a Cargo Dock module used to handle liquid cargo from offshore outposts. After it is constructed, the desired cargo must be selected in the module’s UI window. It can be assigned to cargo from a repaired Oil Rig or a Groundwater Well, depending on which outposts have been discovered.
Fluid modules attached to the same Cargo Dock can be configured independently, and both the cargo type and the module type can be mixed and matched as needed. In practice, modules sharing one dock are often built in identical pairs to make Cargo ship management easier. If a ship is not fully unloaded, it will wait idle for several months before leaving again, so mixing module types can reduce throughput: the ship may remain at the dock until the less-used cargo is emptied, which can create shortages of the more-needed resource.
A single small Fluid module has a download speed of 38.0 units per 60 seconds. Based on that throughput, its capacity relative to outpost extraction is as follows:
- For an Oil Rig producing 12 units per 60 seconds per shift:
- 1 small Fluid module can continuously outpace a 1-shift outpost at 31.6% duty cycle
- 1 small Fluid module can continuously outpace a 2-shift outpost at 63.2% duty cycle
- 2 small Fluid modules can continuously outpace a 3-shift outpost at 94.7% duty cycle
- For a Groundwater Well producing 48 units per 60 seconds per shift:
- 2 small Fluid modules can continuously outpace a 1-shift outpost at 63.2% duty cycle
- 3 small Fluid modules can continuously outpace a 2-shift outpost at 84.2% duty cycle
- 4 small Fluid modules can continuously outpace a 3-shift outpost at 94.7% duty cycle
This makes Fluid modules especially important when planning dock layouts around high-duty-cycle outposts. If the goal is steady export without backing up extraction, dock capacity should be matched to the expected outpost output, with extra margin when ships or unloading schedules are likely to reduce effective uptime.
