Rocket Platform

Overview

The Rocket Platform is a building in Oxygen Not Included that provides a place from which rockets are launched and upon which rockets land. It functions as the dedicated launchpad and touchdown surface for any rocket activity in the game: rockets must be positioned on a Rocket Platform to initiate a launch, and they return to or land on a Rocket Platform when touching down.

As an in-world building, the Rocket Platform defines the physical location for all outbound and inbound rocket operations. Placing one or more Rocket Platforms gives duplicants a fixed site to prepare, service, and dispatch rocket payloads and crew, and it is the only structure where rockets make contact with the colony environment during takeoff and landing. Because the platform is the interface between a rocket and the colony, it is central to any plan that involves sending items or duplicants off-world or recovering arriving craft.

  • Rockets require a Rocket Platform to perform both launch and landing actions; without a platform, rockets cannot be launched or set down within the colony.
  • The Rocket Platform serves as the singular connection point between ground operations and a rocket’s flight sequence; it is the focal point for any pre-launch procedures and for post-landing access to cargo and crew.
  • Multiple Rocket Platforms may be used to organize separate launch/landing lanes or to stage different kinds of missions, ensuring rockets have a proper place to arrive and depart.
  • Positioning and access to a Rocket Platform should account for duplicant travel and servicing needs because all hands-on rocket preparation occurs at the platform location.

The Rocket Platform is the core infrastructure element for all rocket-based activity in the game: it establishes where rockets interact with the base and enables both the dispatch and recovery of spacecraft.
