Overview

Maki Roll is a cooked dish. It is prepared either in the kitchen inside an upgraded farmhouse or with a Cookout Kit, and it restores 40 energy when eaten. The recipe is sold by the Stardrop Saloon for 300g and requires 1 Any Fish and 1 Rice. A Maki Roll sells for 220g, making it a modest-value dish whose main appeal is that it can be crafted from almost any fish.

This recipe is especially profitable when Rice is made in the Mill and the fish used is worth less than the final dish. Because the fish ingredient is flexible, Maki Roll is often a convenient way to convert surplus or low-value fish into a reliable cooked good. It is also one of the dishes that can be produced without needing to gather many specific ingredients, which makes it easy to make in bulk once rice production is established.

Maki Roll can also appear through several other sources:

  • It may appear randomly in Krobus' shop on Saturdays.
  • It may appear in the Stardrop Saloon's rotating stock.
  • It can sometimes be found in the Garbage Can outside the Stardrop Saloon.
  • Linus may randomly send one in the mail as a gift.
  • One may be obtained from opening a Mystery Box.

In tailoring, Maki Roll can be used in the spool of the Sewing Machine with Cloth in the feed to produce a clothing item. It also acts as a black dye when placed in the spool of the Sewing Machine with a dyeable clothing item in the feed. This gives it a small secondary use beyond cooking, especially for players working on custom clothing or dye recipes.

Because it is a cooked dish rather than a raw ingredient, Maki Roll is generally best treated as a flexible utility food: useful for energy recovery, easy to mass-produce once the recipe is purchased, and convenient for turning otherwise ordinary fish into something more valuable.
