Overview

Deep North is the massive snowy biome that fills the far north of each world in Valheim. It is currently a placeholder biome and remains in development, with the next major content update expected to expand it further. At present, the biome is largely empty: there are no creatures and no harvestable resources besides stone.

The region is defined by frozen terrain, drifting ice, and scattered rocky outcrops along the coast. Icebergs and ice sheets can be broken with a pickaxe, but they do not drop any items. Coastal icebergs can also damage ships that approach too closely, and near the edge of the world the current becomes extremely strong, making travel increasingly dangerous; only a Drakkar can resist it to any useful extent at very short range.

Deep North can also blend into Mountain biomes at higher elevations. In those areas, Mountain features such as Frost Caves and Tetra Pools may generate, and the same freezing environment applies. Standard frost protection is still required when exploring: a Frost Resistance Mead works as a reliable safeguard, and wolf armor or wolf fur and lox capes can help, but they do not fully protect against frost while wet. If the player becomes wet in freezing weather, fire and shelter are needed to remove the effect safely.

  • The biome is unfinished and subject to change.
  • Icebergs and ice sheets can be destroyed with a pickaxe, but they yield nothing.
  • Mountains may appear within Deep North, bringing their usual frozen hazards and structures.
  • Stone is the only current resource found in the biome.
  • Travel along the outer edge of the world is especially hazardous because of the strong current.
