Nidhögg the Primal

Nidhögg the Primal is an enchanted sword in Valheim and a variant of the regular Nidhögg. It adds 10 poison damage and has a 20% chance to poison the target for 7 seconds, making it a straightforward upgrade for players who want extra damage over time alongside high slash damage. Unlike the base weapon, its enchantment resets any upgrades applied to the normal sword, so it should be treated as a separate progression path rather than a direct enhancement.

In practice, Nidhögg the Primal is strongest when used against enemies that are not especially resistant to poison, since its poison effect is considerably less effective in Ashlands than the poison effects of the other variants. The weapon also gains durability and slash damage from upgrades, while the poison damage remains fixed across all upgrade levels.

Upgrade values:

• Quality 1: 135 slash, 10 poison, 200 durability
• Quality 2: 141 slash, 10 poison, 250 durability
• Quality 3: 147 slash, 10 poison, 300 durability
• Quality 4: 153 slash, 10 poison, 350 durability

Crafting costs by quality:

• Quality 1: 1 Nidhögg, 6 Flametal, 1 Jade
• Quality 2: 6 Flametal, 1 Jade
• Quality 3: 12 Flametal, 2 Jade
• Quality 4: 18 Flametal, 3 Jade

The fully upgraded sword costs 1 Nidhögg, 42 Flametal, and 6 Jades in total. However, as of patch 218.15, only quality 2 is currently obtainable, making its present practical upgrade cost 6 Flametal and 1 Jade.
