Black Metal Sword

The Black metal sword is a one-handed slashing weapon and the fourth sword in Valheim, coming after the Silver Sword. It is a high-tier melee weapon for players who have reached black metal gear, offering strong base damage, solid parry performance, and a powerful alternate thrust for focused single-target damage.

Its main attack is a three-hit sword combo. The third strike deals double damage, making the full chain especially effective when you can keep pressure on an enemy. The alternate attack is a heavy forward stab that deals triple damage, but it has a 1 second wind-up and costs more stamina than the basic combo. Like other swords, it also benefits from sneak attack bonus damage when striking an enemy that has not detected you.

To craft the Black Metal sword, you need a level 4 Forge or higher, and all required materials must be present in your inventory to unlock the recipe. The base crafting cost is:

• 2 Finewood
• 20 Black metal
• 5 Linen Thread

Upgrades increase the material cost and raise the weapon’s stats. At each quality level, durability rises from 200 to 350, and slash damage increases from 95 to 113. The upgrade costs are:

• Quality 2: 10 Black metal, 5 Linen thread
• Quality 3: 20 Black metal, 10 Linen thread
• Quality 4: 30 Black metal, 15 Linen thread

A fully upgraded Black metal sword also improves its defensive value and blocking strength. Its block stats scale from 20 block power at quality 1 to 35 at quality 4, with parry bonus remaining at 2x. The weapon weighs 0.8, gives -5% movement speed, and has parry values ranging from 78 to 117 depending on upgrade level.

In combat, the sword’s two attack modes serve different roles. The standard combo is safer and cheaper to use repeatedly, while the alternate thrust is useful for landing a concentrated hit against an exposed target. The thrust has a narrower attack arc than the combo, which makes it better for direct engagements than crowd clearing. The sword’s reach and timing are consistent with a disciplined melee style, rewarding players who can keep enemies in front of them.
