Ancient Bark Spear

Ancient Bark spear is a one-handed spear that deals piercing damage and follows the standard spear playstyle in Valheim: fast single-target attacks, a thrown alternate attack, and no combo chain on the primary strike. It is part of the spear weapon category and is built around quick engagement and retrieval, rewarding accuracy and positioning more than raw reach or sweeping damage.

The spear’s primary attack is very fast, with an execution time of 0.68 seconds and a stamina cost of 8. It delivers piercing damage in a narrow forward arc and applies a 3x backstab bonus. At quality 1 through 4, the primary attack deals 55 / 61 / 67 / 73 piercing damage and the same amount of stagger damage, with 20 knockback at every tier. The alternate attack throws the spear, costs 12 stamina, also benefits from the 3x backstab bonus, and takes 1.57 seconds including recovery and retrieving the spear. Its damage at quality 1 through 4 is 82.5 / 91.5 / 100.5 / 109.5 piercing and stagger damage, with 30 knockback.

Like all spears, Ancient bark spear floats if dropped or thrown into water, so it is much less likely to be lost than many other weapons. This makes it especially convenient for fights near rivers, shorelines, and other watery terrain where retrieving thrown weapons can otherwise be risky.

Its upgrade path increases durability rather than changing the weapon’s core behavior. At quality 1 through 4, durability rises from 100 to 250. The crafting costs are:

The forge requirements increase across upgrades, starting at forge level 3 for quality 1 and reaching level 6 for quality 4. Repair requires forge level 3 for every quality.

In practice, Ancient bark spear works best when used as an agile precision weapon. Its quick jab is ideal for punishing single enemies, while the thrown attack gives it extra burst damage when you can safely reclaim the spear immediately afterward. Because the weapon has no combo on its main attack, it favors repeated fast strikes rather than committed attack strings. Its low weight and spear mechanics make it a solid choice for players who want mobility and reliable piercing damage without sacrificing the utility of a ranged opening strike.
