Staff of Frost

A staff as cold as the three-year winter that will herald the end of times.
Overview
Staff of Frost is a magical staff weapon that fires rapid ice shards with its primary attack. It is built for sustained ranged pressure rather than precision: the projectiles have low accuracy, which limits its effective range, but any enemy hit is slowed by the freezing effect. This makes it especially useful for controlling fast or small targets, since the staff can keep them at a distance while landing repeated hits.
Its damage and eitr consumption scale with the caster’s elemental magic skill, and like other magical weapons it has no secondary attack. Wet enemies are vulnerable to frost damage, so the staff deals increased damage to targets affected by water or rain. In practical use, it works best when you can maintain space and keep enemies in front of you, as the low accuracy is less of a problem against larger or slower foes.
The staff head emits a faint light-blue glow at all times. The light is dimmer than most dedicated light sources, but it is enough to help in dark areas. The glow also makes the user slightly easier to detect while sneaking, increasing their visibility by about 20%, so it is not ideal for stealth.
Upgrading improves both its frost damage and durability. At quality 1 it deals 30 frost damage with 200 durability, then 32 damage and 250 durability at quality 2, 34 damage and 300 durability at quality 3, and 36 damage and 350 durability at quality 4. The crafting and upgrade costs are:
- Quality 1: 20
Yggdrasil Wood, 4
Freeze Gland, 16
Refined Eitr
- Quality 2: 10 Yggdrasil wood, 2 Freeze gland, 8 Refined eitr
- Quality 3: 20 Yggdrasil wood, 4 Freeze gland, 16 Refined eitr
- Quality 4: 30 Yggdrasil wood, 6 Freeze gland, 24 Refined eitr
Fully upgrading the staff requires a total of 80 Yggdrasil wood, 16 Freeze gland, and 64 Refined eitr.
Its description references Fimbulvetr, the winter that was said to be the first stage of Ragnarok.
