Overview

Dundr is a lightning-based weapon in Valheim’s Ashlands tier, built around firing a spread of multiple projectiles in a single shot. It is designed for heavy burst damage rather than sustained fire, and its damage output scales strongly with quality. Each shot fires 12 projectiles, all of which deal lightning damage if they connect.

The weapon is crafted from Ashwood, Flametal, Celestial Feather, and Bloodstone, with the material cost increasing as it is upgraded. Its upgrade path improves both durability and lightning damage, making higher-quality versions noticeably stronger:

  • Quality 1: 20 lightning damage, 200 durability
  • Quality 2: 23 lightning damage, 250 durability
  • Quality 3: 26 lightning damage, 300 durability
  • Quality 4: 29 lightning damage, 350 durability

Crafting costs are:

  • Quality 1: 10 Ashwood, 4 Flametal, 3 Celestial feather, 1 Bloodstone
  • Quality 2: 5 Ashwood, 2 Flametal, 3 Celestial feather, 1 Bloodstone
  • Quality 3: 10 Ashwood, 4 Flametal, 6 Celestial feather, 2 Bloodstone
  • Quality 4: 5 Ashwood, 6 Flametal, 9 Celestial feather, 3 Bloodstone

Because the listed damage is per projectile, a full volley can deal 240 to 348 total lightning damage depending on quality if all 12 projectiles hit. This makes Dundr especially effective against large targets or enemies with generous hitboxes, where more of the spread can connect consistently.

Dundr must be reloaded before every attack, in the same way as a crossbow. Running, jumping, or dodging during the reload animation cancels the reload, which can make it awkward to use when surrounded. This also means the weapon is much less effective in crowded fights, since the wielder is exposed while preparing the next shot.

It has strong knockback and recoil, which can be useful for pushing back individual slower enemies and creating space in melee-heavy encounters. It is particularly effective against Morgen, which are weak to lightning damage and easier to hit with multiple projectiles due to their size. Since reloading leaves the player vulnerable, it is best used against Morgen in Putrid Holes, where there are fewer threats that can flank the user.

Dundr also provides efficient progression for Elemental magic, since experience is gained for every projectile that lands. This makes it a useful weapon not only for combat, but also for training the skill quickly when used against large or durable targets.
