Magma Biome

Overview
The Magma Biome is the in-game biome that represents the planet's molten core and high-temperature volcanic regions. It appears in several variants across world generation and is the primary source of extreme heat and magma liquids that can be harnessed for power. In game code this biome is named "Magma Biome" (in some references simply "
Different variants of the Magma Biome exist and have distinct temperature bands and map placement behavior. The Base Version, Volcano Hole variant and Solid Magma variant are categorized as Extremely Hot, with temperatures of 1226.85 ↔ 1526.85 °C; in the Solid Magma variant, exposed magma cools into
Magma Biome behavior and practical interactions:
- Magma can be used as a steady high-temperature heat source for industrial setups. When allowed to cool in appropriate variants, magma converts into Igneous Rock.
- The extreme heat of the Magma Biome makes it an excellent energy source when paired with temperature-to-steam conversion systems feeding Steam Turbines. A well-engineered core on a base-game map can provide enough power to sustain a colony for thousands of cycles with minimal maintenance.
- Spaced Out! (DLC) maps are smaller and may contain less magma or no magma core at all, reducing the available power potential compared with base-game maps.
- Magma Vent variants, being higher and cooler than the deepest magma regions, are easier to access but provide lower temperatures and therefore different engineering trade-offs.
Volcano and Volcano Hole variants concentrate eruptive features; Volcano maps created by the Volcanoes trait populate the map with multiple volcanoes that present both a heat/power opportunity and geological hazard.
Use of the Magma Biome requires careful thermal engineering and materials that withstand extreme temperatures; its primary value is as a long-term, high-density energy source rather than a source of ores, flora, or critters.
