Regolith Biome

regolith-biome

Overview

The Regolith Biome is a late-game surface biome made of loose regolith and notable for being one of the main places where Shove Voles can be found. It is often treated as a useful source of extra material rather than a safe or especially habitable area, and it is typically approached for its resources more than for direct settlement.

The regolith found here is considered a Filtration Medium, which makes the biome valuable when supplies of that material start to run low. This gives it a practical role in large colonies that have exhausted easier filtration options or want a steady source of bulk material for processing.

  • Shove Voles in this biome can be used as a food source if they are starve-ranched, since their upkeep is extremely cheap aside from Duplicant labor for grooming.
  • If they are allowed to eat as much as they can, they become completely unsustainable, so controlling their intake is essential.
  • Because the biome’s regolith is a Filtration Medium, harvesting or transporting it can be worthwhile even if the biome is not being fully developed.
