Oil Well

Overview

Oil Well is a building that creates and maintains an oil reservoir for harvesting Crude Oil. The game treats fluid contents of an oil reservoir specially: any Water that is pumped into an oil reservoir is irretrievably lost. This behavior is consistent across localizations.

Because Water injected into an oil reservoir cannot be recovered, Oil Well interactions with pumps and plumbing require caution. Avoid routing potable or otherwise valuable Water into oil reservoirs, since that Water cannot be reclaimed by pumps or other fluid-handling buildings once it enters the reservoir. Use dedicated piping and sensor logic to keep Water and Crude Oil separated when moving fluids near Oil Wells.

  • Do not connect general-purpose Water circuits directly to an oil reservoir; accidental mixing will permanently consume the Water.
  • When using pumps around oil reservoirs, isolate Crude Oil lines from Water lines with valves, liquid bridges, or automation to prevent accidental injection.
  • If you need to clear a conduit that may contain Water before it reaches an oil reservoir, route the flow into a safe storage tank or a disposal area rather than into the Oil Well reservoir.
  • Treat oil reservoirs as sinks for any Water that enters them; plan fluid routing so that only intended Crude Oil is delivered to or drawn from those reservoirs.
