Nosh Bean

Nosh Bean is an edible crop item harvested from Nosh Sprout. It can be planted in Planter Boxes, Farm Tiles, and Hydroponic Farms, and a mature plant yields 12 Nosh Beans when harvested. It is a renewable food source only on asteroids that generate Rust Biomes, since it is obtained from harvesting or uprooting Nosh Sprout or from digging up Buried Objects in a Rust Biome.

Raw Nosh Bean is not edible as a meal ingredient, but it is used in several cooking recipes and can also be crushed into Brackene. Its food value depends on the recipe it is used in, with prepared dishes ranging from 600 kcal to 1250 kcal per Nosh Bean. Known uses include:

• Tofu: 6 Nosh Bean + 50 kg Water → 3600 kcal Tofu
• Spicy Tofu: 3600 kcal Tofu + 1 Pincha Peppernut → 4000 kcal Spicy Tofu
• Curried Beans: 4 Nosh Bean + 4 Balm Lily → 5000 kcal Curried Beans

Several critters can eat Nosh Bean directly. Since the February 2024 QoL Update, Pacu can consume 1 unit per cycle. Bammoth can also eat either harvested Nosh Bean or Nosh Sprout plant growth, making it useful as both a harvested food and a direct livestock crop.

For storage, Nosh Bean can be preserved indefinitely if kept frozen, either by storing the item itself or by keeping it in a sufficiently cold surrounding gas environment. If all Nosh Bean on a colony are spoiled or consumed, and the asteroid type does not generate Rust Biomes, there is no way to obtain more.
