Overview

The Old Mariner is a special beach NPC associated with the Mermaid’s Pendant, the item used to propose marriage to an eligible spouse. He is remembered in the game’s lore as a mysterious figure who appears and disappears at the shoreline, and the lost book Marriage Guide for Farmers describes him as a ghost.

He has a small amount of unique dialogue tied to the player’s progress and certain items. In particular, after using the Void Ghost Pendant, he will say, “Glad the Amulet worked out for ye, lad/miss,” even though that item is not the “Amulet” referred to in his dialogue. This makes his dialogue one of the few places where the game directly comments on an item in a slightly indirect way.

  • The Old Mariner is depicted in the game’s gallery artwork and screenshots.
  • His dialogue ties him to marriage-related progression rather than ordinary villager routines.
  • The “ghost” description in Marriage Guide for Farmers reinforces his eerie, supernatural presentation.
